On the 26th of December the main symbol of the Russian New Year, Father Frost, will arrive in St Petersburg from his residence in Velikiy Ustug, to take part in the pre-New Year festivities. He will turn on the lights of the city's main Christmas tree on Palace Square. This year's Christmas tree is 25 metres high and will be festooned in fairy lights. A detailed programme of the festivities, including Father Frost himself, will be available very soon.
