African Art at the HermitagePresentation of Late 19th and Early 20th Century works of African Art at the Hermitage.

This unique collection of African Art has been assembled by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Guinea in Saint Petersburg and Leningrad region - Mr Sergei Girdinym.

The collection began to take shape in the Autumn of 2015 and the idea of gathering examples of art from this culture was welcomed as the Hermitage had, previously, only a meagre collection.

Among the items, visitors will be able to see a puppet in the form of a colonial official in uniform, an Asafo military association emblem and an ivory pendant from the collection of the French artist, Andre Derain - a Fauvist artist.

Visitors will be able to view over 28 works of African Art in this exciting new exhibition.
